Title : Sri Lanka

Dear Mr.
Sir,
Thank you very much for your
kind greeting for me , I really enjoyed
it. Though most of the time
I had in Sri Lanka was given to the
construction work for a
irrigation project to make the area into
paddy fields, I also managed
to have nice experience in Sri Lanka ,
most of which was in my
holiday time in Sri Lanka.
We have only one day and
consecutive 3 days holidays in a month when
the construction schedule
was normal.
Our construction site is
located in between the central mountains
and the eastern
cost.
Distance from our
construction site to Colombo, capital of Sri
Lanka, is around 260 km and
it took 7 hours by our vehicle from site
to
Colombo.
We could stay only 2 nights
in a hotel in Colombo to enjoy and
refresh ourselves for the
future work.
Indeed jungle life was tough
and boring due to long construction
period , i.e. 5
years.
The project was commenced in
1983 and it was substantially completed
in October,1988 and now is
the maintenance period which lasts to the
end of September of this
year.
If the engineer of Sri
Lanka, I hope so, may have no objection to
issue the Maintenance
Certificate to the contractor in October of
this year, we could say
everything is over at last after long time.
I really hope Sri Lankan
engineer would be satisfied with our
workmanship of the Work for
the entire project.
During the construction
period, we encountered so many difficulties
in the jungle and some of
our staff were forced to be back to Japan
due to
disease.
Fortunately (Unfortunately
?) I was luckey enough to survive even in
the
jungle.
Vedda (primitive
people/jungle people) is living in our site area.
Their life style is, I
presume , as same as that one in 2000 years
back in Sri Lanka. They are
hunting, fishing, collecting food in
jungle, seemed to be very
happy compared to us.
Sri Lankan TV broadcasting
staff and press people sometimes come to
interview them for TV and
Newspaper.
I like TV and Press people.
I was also intervewed by both TV and
Press when they came to the
site area and the interview was
broadcasted and issued all
over Sri Lanka by both TV and Daily News
which has the largest share
of English Newspaper in Sri Lanka.
That was one of the
highlight of my life , I was so happy to have had
a party with them in our
Japanese camp with singing songs, playing
guitar.
Story
continues.
